Pressure cooked’ (Statesman – 18th March)

‘Thank you world, but there is no room for a further crisis the diary is full’. There are days when we feel that someone has poured our life into a blender and pressed ‘puree’……we stop existing in one piece- our mind, our feelings, our body, every part of us is busy doing their own thing and we just seem to have no control over anything.

We can have mental, emotional or physical stress or maybe all of it that is when we are close to being declared mentally unstable and crazy. Ironically, stress develops soon after everything seemed just fine, as they say nothing good lasts forever. There is no denying the fact that we exist in a competitive and chaotic environment and it’s only human to lose it sometimes but keeping our life’s status update as ‘being stressed out’ constantly is not an option.

So every time you feel you are losing it and feel like jumping off the bridge, here are some tips which the wise men did not have the common sense to prescribe and is definitely more exciting than yoga and popping pills.

Swear if you have to! True, it is researched by East Anglia Norwich University that swearing reduces stress.

Indulge in deep meditation, inhale deep and as you exhale fantasize about your deepest temptation.

Seek revenge if you must but sweetly and gracefully.

It is great to laze around and then rest after all the effort is spent lazing around.

Don’t stress yourself if you have the desire to choke the living daylights out of some idiot who probably deserves it to, just click that good for nothing’s photograph use it as a toilet paper or simply set it on fire.

If your colleagues hate you, walk taller, they definitely envy you.

If there is any one person who accepts you with what you are then wow you are dating god…they don’t make such species anymore.

If you are not getting that promotion then be thankful that god loves you, and gave you some more time to live, the one promoted will probably die of blood pressure sooner.

If you are stuck in an hour long traffic jam, it is better than being stuck ten minutes in a dark elevator.

Mistakes are fun to make and if you had fun while doing it, then they are worth doing it all over again.

If you lend someone money and you can’t find him, then that someone was good riddance at that price.

You hate someone and cannot be nice, then simply sound confusing.

If your in-laws stress you out then just meet them three drinks down.

If your partner seems unbearable just think of all the ugly smelly types you could have ended up with.

If you are broke and have no money then yippee! No one will ask you for any.

If you are heartbroken, then you have failed to see that your sweetheart had crooked teeth.

If you are trapped in a relationship think again, most single people are freaks.

If you are an unhappy single then ask all the couples crippled with boredom and more boredom.

The list is never-ending and every little problem can become colossal, if we annihilate it to shreds and pounce on it with a pair of boxing gloves. It is always the small stuff that stresses us; the larger issues somehow bring out the best in us.

The goddamn truth is that the mess is in our own head and no one else but we ourselves are the authors of our books of miseries. It is easy to lose the sense of self in the crowd playing ‘catch up,’ maybe it’s time to catch up with your own self over a cup of hot steaming coffee….

USO wears many hats — and occasionally forgets where she puts them. Blogger, once upoan a time a radio broadcaster, few years ago a freelance content writer, and a believer that everything has a theory. She has had her words appear on the pages of The Statesman and The Telegraph in India, and her voice air over All India Radio FM every evening 8pm-9pm where she once hosted a music chat show with more rhythm than any running playlist. Based in London, USO is a senior executive in technology services. She’s wildly passionate about everything from the poetic flutter of drying clothes in the wind to nailing that PowerPoint pitch. Through all of life’s plot twists, two things remain her North Stars: Running and Writing. One fuels her body, the other, her soul. She's currently working on publishing her first book — a patchwork of stories about you, me, and the magical mess in between. Keep an eye on this space — or at least on your bookshelf.
